At GTE Track Spray, we are focused on the environmental consequences of the herbicides we use, and the areas we use them. All of our clients have a variety of biosite areas that require no or different treatment to the main rail corridor areas. We incorporate a variety of herbicides and methods of application dependent upon the specific requirements of each client and area to be treated. Some of the factors we consider include the various weeds that need to be treated, levels of resistance to chemical treatments in the past, protected flora, biosite specific instructions and other environmental aspects of the work to be performed.

In addition to our focus on the environmental requirements of our clients, we also focus on recycling and other environmental issues within our practices.

We recently replaced our halogen lighting in Echuca with energy efficient LED lights that output a brighter light, react to movement on a sensor therefore operating on less power when no movement is detected at 50% brightness, and will last up to 50,000 hours of use before needing to be replaced, reducing future landfill. These LED lights will also save up to 70% on the energy consumed by lighting at our premises.

We also run a cardboard recycling program, and drum muster. Our facility is fitted with a triple interceptor system to filter out sediment from any water run off collected after cleaning the vehicles. We have specific work instructions for how to maintain the high levels of vehicle hygiene whilst in the field to avoid cross contamination of weeds/pests/diseases between areas.

These are some examples of the ways in which GTE Track Spray is helping to minimise the environmental impact of the business whilst achieving our client’s needs and target weed control levels.
